I can see you have to be careful not to overuse it as there aren't the range of synonyms available as there are for 'said.'
This is such an interesting idea!

I do think you have to 'translate' into English, with perhaps some (necessarily contrived?) reminders that she is signing.

In my novel, I write in different 'voices' of different characters. One of the things my editor pulled me up on was that I was being too zealous in my determination to remain true to my characters' voices. You have to remember, you are writing for a reader who wants to understand, and not just for yourself.

Can't comment on the cycling for a reason I'm too embarrassed to admit... !Leigh Russellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15080517449825380527noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9088473527308746266.post-64866275048588102062007-11-29T19:02:00.000+00:002007-11-29T19:02:00.000+00:00True, but how would you get around? It would always remind the reader that Deb (good name that!) is deaf.

I think I would prefer to be blind than deaf. At least then I would still be able to listen to my music!!Akasha Savage.https://www.blogger.com/profile/13482147165827577180noreply@blogger.com
